Five members of the Holy Cross women’s track & field team secured individual victories at the Suffolk Ice Breaker Invitational, which took place at the TRACK at New Balance in Boston on Sunday.
Sophomore Danielle DiEsso won the 400 meters with a time of 59.01 seconds. Senior Abby Granrath finished first in the 1,000 meters, clocking in at 2:57.12, surpassing her previous personal best set last March. Senior Alex Lusby led a strong showing in the 800 meters with a winning time of 2:16.05, while juniors Gabby Paolella and Bridget Sachs claimed titles in shot put (13.00m) and pole vault (3.85m), respectively.
The Crusaders’ relay team—DiEsso, Lusby, junior Angelina Lancey and sophomore Abby Desmarais—took first place in the 4×400 relay with a time of 4:00.45.
Sachs’ pole vault mark ties for the top performance so far this season within the Patriot League.
Other notable results included Lusby leading three Holy Cross athletes into the top five for the 800 meters; Fiona Doherty was third and Shannon Kelly placed fifth. Junior Siena Brunetti achieved third place in the 3,000 meters with a personal best of 9:52.45, while freshman Allie Kaull came fifth.
In sprints and hurdles, Desmarais finished fourth in the 200 meters and freshman Elle Grant was fourth in the 60 meter hurdles.
On field events, senior Ester Mokonchu took second place in weight throw (15.77m) and sophomore Lily Deforge placed fourth (14.81m). Sophomore Maddie Goncalves earned third in shot put and sixth in weight throw.
Junior Shannon Briseno rounded out Holy Cross’s performances by taking fourth place in pole vault with a mark of 3.40m.
The team is scheduled to compete next at Boston University’s John Thomas Terrier Classic on January 30.
