The Holy Cross baseball team lost both games of a doubleheader against Navy on April 17 at Fitton Field, with scores of 3-2 and 10-4. The Crusaders now hold a record of 16-21 overall and are fourth in the Patriot League standings, while Navy improved to second place after securing its sixth straight league win.
The results impact the Crusaders’ position as they aim for higher placement in the Patriot League. The losses come at a crucial point in the season as teams vie for playoff spots.
In game one, senior pitcher Jaden Wywoda achieved notable personal milestones by moving to fourth place on Holy Cross’s all-time strikeout list with five strikeouts during his complete game performance. He now has 187 career strikeouts and needs just 13 more to become only the third player in program history to reach 200. Wywoda also advanced to fifth place on the program’s career innings pitched list with a total of 235.1 innings.
During game two, junior first baseman Ryan Grundy hit his third home run of the season and contributed three runs batted in during a two-hit effort. Despite these individual achievements, Holy Cross was unable to overcome Navy’s offense.
Other highlights included performances from Braden Connors, Colin Brown, Macade Maxwell, Jake Hooten for Holy Cross in game one, and Sandell and CJ Egrie contributing offensively in game two. For Navy, pitchers Brady Bendik and Tyler Grenn each earned wins while Jackson Clark secured a save out of the bullpen.
Looking ahead, Holy Cross is scheduled for another doubleheader on Saturday, April 18. Sophomore right-handed pitcher Brett Mulligan is set to start game one.
