The Holy Cross baseball team lost both games of a doubleheader against Navy on April 18 at the Ballpark at Fitton Field. The Crusaders were defeated 9-5 in seven innings in the first game and fell 10-5 in the second game.
These losses bring Holy Cross’s record to 16-23 overall and 10-10 in Patriot League play, while Navy improves to 26-14 overall and 13-7 in league games. The results affect both teams’ standings as they continue through the season.
In the opening game, junior right-handed pitcher Thomas Skrobe set a personal best with five strikeouts over nearly three innings of relief work. Junior second baseman Alex Sandell hit his fifth home run of the season, an inside-the-park homer during the seven-inning contest. Other notable performances included junior Colin Brown driving in a run and sophomore Simon Landry scoring twice with two stolen bases.
During game two, senior CJ Egrie went three-for-four at bat, hitting his second home run of the year and collecting two runs batted in along with one run scored. Freshman pitcher Henry Harding also struck out five batters for a new career high. Despite these efforts, Navy managed to pull ahead with late-inning rallies.
Holy Cross initially led after Egrie’s solo home run gave them a brief advantage before Navy responded with multiple runs across later innings. The Crusaders attempted comebacks but could not close the gap as Navy extended their lead into double digits by game’s end.
Looking ahead, Holy Cross will play its final road mid-week game of the season on Tuesday, April 21 against Dartmouth. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
