The Holy Cross men’s lacrosse team lost to Boston University, 18-13, at Kuzniewski Field on April 24. With this result, Holy Cross finished its season with a record of 6-8 overall and 2-6 in the Patriot League, while Boston University moved into the playoffs at 8-5 overall and 6-2 in league play.
This game marked the end of the season for Holy Cross and represented their highest win total since 2019. The match highlighted key performances from several players as they closed out their campaign.
Boston University started strong by outscoring Holy Cross, 7-2, in the first quarter. Sophomore Owen Tunney and junior Jon-Luke Duley scored for the Crusaders during that period. In the second quarter, junior Bo Webster and Tunney added two more goals for Holy Cross as Boston University maintained a slight edge.
In the second half, senior Damien Ramondo and Webster responded quickly after two Terrier goals. Although Boston University extended its lead with another goal while up a man, late efforts by Tunney and Webster helped reduce the deficit heading into the final quarter. Junior Ryan Botek opened scoring in that frame before Boston University pulled away with five more goals. Senior Tyler Marmo, Webster, and Botek scored late goals to bring it to an eventual final score of 18-13.
Senior JR Long made thirteen saves over fifty-six minutes before senior Sean Miller entered in relief at goalkeeper. Freshman Shane McDonnell led both teams at faceoff wins with ten victories and collected nine ground balls—the most by any player on either side. Nine different Crusaders recorded caused turnovers during the contest.
Looking ahead, Holy Cross will aim to build on this year’s progress when next season begins.
