The Holy Cross men’s tennis team won a close match against Merrimack by a score of 4-3 on April 10 at the Sinnott Family Tennis Facility.
The match was significant as it marked Senior Day for the Crusaders, who honored seniors Alessandro Bizzarri, Camilo Illanes, and Patrick Ling in a prematch ceremony. The victory improved Holy Cross’s overall record to 6-11, while Merrimack dropped to 3-12.
In doubles play, Holy Cross secured the opening point with wins at both No. 1 and No. 2 positions. Sophomore Ezequiel De la Plaza and freshman Aayush Jhaveri won their match at No. 1 doubles with a score of 6-1. Juniors Matt Carlson and Teddy Callery followed up with a win at No. 2 doubles by a score of 6-2.
During singles competition, the Crusaders captured three matches to clinch the overall victory. Carlson earned his second win of the day at No. 2 singles (6-0, 6-3), while Callery also notched his second win at No. 3 singles (6-2, 6-2). Illanes contributed another point for Holy Cross with a decisive victory at No. 6 singles (6-0, 6-1).
Looking ahead, Holy Cross will return to Patriot League action when they travel to face Loyola (Maryland) on Sunday, April 12.
