The Holy Cross softball team lost to Army West Point in its final game of the season at Freshman Field on May 3. The Black Knights secured an 11-1 win in five innings, completing a sweep of the season series.
This game was the last for seniors Jenna Alesandrelli, Brooke Ventrelle, Anna Brait, Sophia Roncone, Morgan Kane, and Ali Sniegocki. The contributions of these players marked significant milestones for the program.
Sophia Roncone ended her career ranked third all-time in strikeouts with 406, tied for third in shutouts with seven, and sixth in complete games with forty. Both Ali Sniegocki and Anna Brait surpassed 150 career hits this season; Sniegocki finished tied for sixth all-time with 160 hits while Brait is tied for ninth with 151. In doubles, Sniegocki is tied for second all-time at thirty-eight and Brait ranks sixth with thirty-four. Sniegocki also holds second place in program history for home runs at eighteen.
During Sunday’s contest, Army West Point took an early lead by scoring eight runs in the first inning, including a three-run home run by Caitlyn Newburn. Anna Brait drove in Kate Trudgen to put Holy Cross on the board but Army extended its lead through subsequent innings.
The loss closes out the Crusaders’ season as they recognize their graduating seniors’ achievements and contributions to the team.
