The Holy Cross softball team lost to Providence College by a score of 1-0 on April 7 at Glay Field.
The game was decided by a single run in the fifth inning, when Providence’s Cameron Dunn grounded out to shortstop, allowing Gabriella Lee to score. This proved to be the only run of the contest.
Freshman pitcher Bridget Mulkeen started for Holy Cross and pitched six innings. She allowed one earned run on two hits, recorded one strikeout, issued seven walks, and left eight Friars stranded on base. At the plate for Holy Cross, freshman catcher Makenzie Crerand went 1-for-3 and threw out her first baserunner during the bottom of the second inning when she caught Zoe Krizan attempting to steal second base. Other Crusaders with hits included Kate Trudgen (1-for-3), Brooke Ventrelle (1-for-2), and Morgan Kane (1-for-2).
For Providence, Grace Brooks earned the win after pitching five shutout innings with four hits allowed and six strikeouts. Addyson Frye came in as relief for two innings without allowing any hits or runs while striking out two batters.
Holy Cross will return home for its next game against Dartmouth on Wednesday, April 8 at Freshman Field with first pitch scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
