The Holy Cross softball team lost both games of a doubleheader against Army West Point on May 2 at Freshman Field. The Black Knights won the first game 15-1 and the second game 9-0, with both contests ending in five innings due to run-rule margins.
These results marked a challenging senior day for Holy Cross, as Army West Point took control early in both games and maintained their lead throughout. The losses affect Holy Cross’s overall record as they near the end of their season.
In the first game, pitcher Sophia Roncone started for Holy Cross but allowed eight earned runs in just over one inning. Jenna Alesandrelli drove in the only run for Holy Cross with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning. Tayten Moore led Army West Point’s offense with a grand slam in the opening frame, while Ashton White contributed four RBIs and three runs scored.
Game two saw Bridget Mulkeen start for Holy Cross, giving up eight runs (four earned) over three-plus innings. Anna Brait recorded one hit for Holy Cross, but Samantha Sims powered Army’s offense with a home run and four RBIs. Amanda Eaglin pitched all five innings for Army West Point, allowing only one hit.
Holy Cross will conclude its season and series against Army West Point on Sunday, May 3, with first pitch scheduled for noon.
