The Holy Cross softball team lost both games of a doubleheader against Boston University on April 25. The Crusaders were defeated 11-2 in five innings in the first game and dropped the second game by a score of 8-4.
These losses affect Holy Cross’s standing as they approach the end of their series with Boston University, making each remaining game significant for the team’s season.
In the first game, Holy Cross pitcher Sophia Roncone allowed seven hits and eleven runs over just under two innings. Freshman Bella Nugent hit a solo home run in the second inning to put Holy Cross on the scoreboard, while sophomore Kate Trudgen contributed an RBI-double in the third. Despite these efforts, Boston University scored eight runs in their half of the second inning and secured a run-rule victory after five innings.
During game two, Bridget Mulkeen started for Holy Cross and pitched six innings, giving up ten hits and eight runs (five earned). In a strong fourth inning for Holy Cross, Emily McCandless hit a three-run home run followed by Anna Brait’s solo homer to briefly give their team a 4-2 lead. However, Boston University responded with three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to regain control of the game.
The Crusaders will conclude their series against Boston University on Sunday, April 26 at noon.
