The Holy Cross women’s rowing team competed at the Knecht Cup on April 13 and 14 in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, as part of its spring schedule.
The event provided an opportunity for the team to gain experience against a large field. Associate head coach Tony Delgreco said, “We returned to Knecht Cup for the first time since 2019 to get a mid season championship experience racing 34 other teams. We learned from each of our three races and adapted our mindset and execution as we progressed through the weekend. We are proud of what the team took away from our trip to Cherry Hill and will continue to build as we come into the second half of the season.”
In competition, the varsity eight won their heat with a time of 6:57.65 before finishing fifth in their semi-final with a time of 7:27.36. They placed third in their final race with a time of 6:58.37, narrowly missing out on higher placement by less than three seconds behind Georgetown and Delaware but finishing ahead of Old Dominion, Sacred Heart, and Eastern Michigan.
The second varsity eight finished second in their heat at 7:05.35—just under a quarter-second behind Radcliffe—and outpaced Sacred Heart, Eastern Michigan, and St. Joseph’s by seven or more seconds. In their semi-final they were fifth (7:29.07), then won their final race with a time of 7:12.09, over three seconds ahead of Radcliffe.
Holy Cross is scheduled to return home to Lake Quinsigamond for its next meet against Boston College, Connecticut, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Massachusetts (UMass), and Sacred Heart on Saturday, April 18.
Delgreco said he was pleased with how much his athletes learned during this stage in the season.
