Holy Cross women’s tennis edged out by Siena in close non-conference match

The Holy Cross women’s tennis team experienced a narrow 4-3 loss to Siena in a non-conference match on Sunday afternoon in Latham, New York. With this result, the Crusaders’ season record moves to 2-4, while Siena improves to 5-1.

Holy Cross secured the doubles point after two pairs won their matches. Freshmen Margaret Winiecki and Phoebe Devine earned a 6-2 victory at the No. 1 doubles slot, bringing their season record as partners to 4-3. Senior Ashley Zilora and junior Alison Lynn also contributed with a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles.

Siena responded strongly in singles play, claiming four wins that allowed them to take the overall match. For Holy Cross, Devine achieved her fifth singles win of the season by defeating her opponent 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. Zilora added another point for the Crusaders with a straight-set victory (6-2, 6-4) at No. 5 singles.

The Crusaders will next compete against Bryant on Saturday, February 21 at 9:30 a.m.
