Freshman Jake Baker achieved his first collegiate event victory as the Holy Cross men’s track and field team competed at the URI Invitational in Kingston, Rhode Island, on Saturday.
Baker secured first place in the weight throw with a distance of 17.04 meters, which he recorded on his fourth attempt. Senior Michael Laflamme finished fourth in the same event with a mark of 16.48 meters, while sophomore Josh Dymond placed ninth at 14.00 meters.
In other field events, Baker also took ninth place in the shot put by achieving a personal best of 14.09 meters. Sophomore Tireni Asenuga finished ninth in the long jump with a mark of 6.56 meters.
On the track, senior Luke Boothroyd came in fourth in the 500 meter dash with a time of 1:07.43. Freshman Matt Shaw finished ninth in the 400 meters, clocking 52.66 seconds.
The team will compete next at the Suffolk Ice Breaker Invitational, scheduled to begin tomorrow at 9:30 a.m.
