Matt Carlson of the Holy Cross men’s tennis team was named to the 2026 Patriot League Second Team, according to a May 1 announcement by the conference office. The selection was made following votes from the league’s head coaches.
This recognition makes Carlson only the third player in program history to earn All-Patriot League honors, joining Matt Wierzel (2009 second team) and current teammate Ezequiel De la Plaza (2025 second team).
Carlson, a junior who had previously been selected three times for honorable mention in the Patriot League, completed an undefeated regular season in league singles play with a record of 4-0. His victories included matches against Petter Hagen of Loyola Maryland, Aidan Lee of Colgate, Derrin Lerner of Lafayette, and Jakob Esterowitz of Boston University. Overall this spring, Carlson finished with an 8-8 singles record and ranked second on his team for singles wins.
In doubles competition, Carlson achieved a 9-8 record. Notable wins came against pairs from Boston University and Lafayette during both regular season and tournament play.
Holy Cross ended its season with an overall record of 8-13 and went 1-4 in league matches. This marks their second consecutive year achieving eight victories—the most for the program in over two decades.
Other major awards announced by the conference include Player of the Year Amar Tahirovic from Bucknell and Rookie of the Year Aleksandar Daskalovic from Lehigh. Navy’s coaching staff led by Chris Garner received Coaching Staff of the Year honors.
