The Holy Cross women’s track and field team competed at the Jay Carisella and Joe Donahue Coaches Invitational hosted by Northeastern, as well as the Duke Twilight meet during the weekend of May 2-3.
These competitions were significant for the team, with two athletes setting new school records. Freshman Megan Moran broke the school’s record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at Northeastern with a time of 10:56.91, surpassing Caitlin Tzimorotas’ previous mark by more than 19 seconds. Moran now holds both the 2,000-meter and 3,000-meter steeplechase records for Holy Cross after previously setting a record in the shorter event earlier this season.
Senior Celia Kulis also achieved a milestone by resetting her own school record in the 100-meter hurdles at Duke Twilight. She finished tied for sixth place with a time of 13.55 seconds, which currently stands as the fastest in the Patriot League.
Other notable performances included sophomore Shelia Purcell placing tenth in the 3,000 meters at Northeastern with a time of 10:19.38, freshman Frankie Spagna finishing fourth in triple jump (11.22 meters) and tenth in high jump (1.45 meters), while Mary Zabielski and Siena Horn took sixth and seventh place respectively in javelin.
At Duke Twilight, junior Bridget Sachs cleared 3.90 meters to finish tenth in pole vault; meanwhile, Holy Cross’s women’s relay team finished fifth in the 4×100 meter race with a time of 46.84 seconds—less than one second away from breaking another program record.
The Crusaders are scheduled to compete next at the Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 15-16.
