No. 21 Holy Cross men’s rowing competes against Cornell and Oregon State

The no. 21 Holy Cross men’s rowing team competed against no. 13 Cornell and no. 25 Oregon State on May 3 at Cayuga Lake in Ithaca, New York.

The event was important for the Crusaders as they faced strong competition from nationally ranked teams, providing an opportunity to measure their performance ahead of upcoming regattas.

In the morning races, Holy Cross was defeated by Cornell in all matchups. The Varsity Eight+ finished with a time of 6:09.5, just over three seconds behind Cornell’s boat. The Second Varsity Eight+ posted a time of 6:31.6, while the Third and Fourth Varsity Eight+ crews finished in 6:38.1 and 7:03.0 respectively.

Holy Cross improved its results in the afternoon session against Oregon State, winning both head-to-head contests with the Beavers. The Varsity Eight+ secured victory by more than fifteen seconds with a time of 6:15.9, while the Second Varsity Eight+ edged out Oregon State by nearly ten seconds at 6:28.0. In another matchup between Holy Cross’s Third and Fourth Varsity Eights+, the third crew prevailed with a time of 6:44.1 compared to the fourth crew’s finish at 6:59.5.

The team will next compete at home on Lake Quinsigamond for the Eastern Sprints scheduled for Sunday, May 17.
