The Holy Cross men’s lacrosse team was defeated by Sacred Heart 15-11 on Saturday at Kuzniewski Field in Worcester, Massachusetts. With this result, Sacred Heart remains unbeaten with a 3-0 record, while Holy Cross moves to 2-2 for the season.
Holy Cross started the game strong, scoring five of the first six goals. The early offensive effort included goals from Owen Tunney, Aedan Cassidy, Sam McDonald, Damien Ramondo, and Ryan Botek. However, Sacred Heart responded by scoring four goals across the end of the first quarter and start of the second quarter to tie the game at 5-5.
Before halftime, Ramondo, Tunney, and Jon-Luke Duley each scored for Holy Cross while Sacred Heart added two more goals. The teams went into halftime with Holy Cross leading narrowly at 8-7.
In the third quarter, Andrew Ottomanelli opened scoring for Holy Cross. A three-goal run by Sacred Heart gave them their first lead at 10-9. Jude Lynch tied it up for Holy Cross just before the end of the third quarter.
Sacred Heart pulled ahead in the final period with a four-goal run to make it 14-10. Tunney completed his hat trick late in the game for Holy Cross but it was not enough as Sacred Heart added another goal to finish at 15-11.
Senior JR Long made seven saves during the match. Michael Rincon and Julian Jenkins led all players with three caused turnovers each. Freshman Shane McDonnell stood out by winning 17 faceoffs—finishing with a .629 win percentage—and collecting seven ground balls.
Holy Cross will continue its homestand next weekend when they host Le Moyne at Kuzniewski Field on Saturday, February 21 at 1 p.m.
