Holy Cross men’s lacrosse freshman Shane McDonnell was named Patriot League Faceoff Specialist of the Week, according to an announcement by the league on April 20.
The recognition follows McDonnell’s performance in the Crusaders’ recent game against Bucknell, where he achieved 15 faceoff wins and collected nine ground balls. These statistics marked his ninth game this season with double-digit faceoff victories and tied his season-high for ground balls. In addition, McDonnell scored a goal in the second quarter, making it his third consecutive game with a goal.
McDonnell’s .594 win percentage at faceoffs ties him for first place in the Patriot League and ranks him seventeenth nationally. He also averages five ground balls per game, which is sixth best in the league.
The Holy Cross Crusaders currently hold a record of six wins and seven losses overall, with two wins and five losses in league play. The team is scheduled to return to Kuzniewski Field to play Boston University on Friday, April 24 at 6 p.m., marking their final regular-season matchup.
The program encourages fans to follow Holy Cross men’s lacrosse through various social media platforms for updates throughout the remainder of the season.
