Nichols College President Glenn Sulmasy has named current Vice President for Athletics Jack Hayes Director of Athletics.

Hayes joined the college this past winter and will oversee all aspects of Bison athletics, which is comprised of 23 men's, women's and co-ed varsity sports, 21 of which are NCAA Division III level.

"Jack is the ideal candidate to assume this position," said Sulmasy, who begins his second year as President in 2022-23. "He brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to the college when he arrived in March. With this appointment to Director of Athletics, Jack will continue to lead our charge to both regional and national prominence."

Hayes served as Brown University's Director of Athletics from 2012-21. During his tenure, the Bears earned 26 academic all-America awards, two Senior CLASS awards and a National Player of the Year honor. The Bears won six Ivy League championships and made post-season appearances in 14 sports. Five of the coaches Hayes hired received conference coach of the year accolades.

The Rhode Island native previously served as the Director of Athletics at Hofstra from 2004-12. The Pride captured 21 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) championships and made 35 post-season appearances during that span, including 26 NCAA tournament appearances. Hofstra student-athletes went on to earn 10 academic all-America honors and 16 conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards, and five of the Pride coaches Hayes hired went on to receive conference coach of the year awards.

Hayes has served on various NCAA and conference committees, including the NCAA Leadership Council and the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship Committee, which he chaired in 2019. He held leadership positions at the University of Connecticut, Fordham, St, John's and Fairfield before taking the athletic director position at Hofstra.

Hayes graduated from the Providence Country Day School and was inducted in the school's Athletic Hall of Fame in 2019. A 1989 graduate of Providence College, he was a three-year starter on the Friars lacrosse team. He went on to earn a master's degree in education from the University of Connecticut in 1992.
