EMMERICH SETS COURSE RECORD AT NEW ENGLAND AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

Senior Christian Emmerich of the Holy Cross men's gold team recorded the best competitive round of his career, going 10-under-par for a score of 62 at Alpine Country Club during the 93rd New England Amateur Championship, on Wednesday, July 20.

Emmerich notched seven birdies and two eagles during the round, shattering the previous course record of 66. Emmerich ended the three-day affair seven under, just one stroke shy of Jared Nelson who finished the round two under and the championship eight under to secure the victory.

"Going into it, I was thinking five under would be a good round and I could leave happy," Emmerich said.

Emmerich made a 15-foot shot on the 10th hole for an eagle to go seven under par and reached nine under by the 12th hole.

"The lowest I've ever been on a course is eight," Emmerich said. "I really didn't want to make a couple bogies and scrape in like I did [in the last round]. I was not letting that happen."
