Choate Drafted by the San Francisco Giants in 2022 MLB Amateur Draft

Assumption University junior pitcher Jack Choate was selected in the ninth round of the Major League Baseball draft by the San Francisco Giants on Monday afternoon.

Choate is the sixth Greyhound to be drafted and the first since Steve Santucci was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 19th round of the 1993 Amateur Draft.

A native of North Grafton, Mass., Choate led all Assumption arms with 127 strikeouts and a 2.43 ERA in his breakout 2022 campaign. In 70.1 innings, Choate recorded double-digit strikeouts seven times, while also not allowing an earned run in his final 29.2 innings pitched of the year.

On March 26 at Saint Anselm, the southpaw retired 19 Hawks via strikeouts while allowing just two hits in the complete-game shutout.

The Westborough High School product was dominant in the 2022 Northeast-10 Tournament, as he logged 17.0 innings and struck out 25 while allowing just one hit and walking just three.

The draft continues through round 10 on Monday and rounds 11-20 on Tuesday.
