Nichols College Vice President and Director of Athletics Jack Hayes announced Thursday the hiring of Makayla Norton as the head coach of the cross country and track and field programs.
"We are excited to welcome Makayla Norton to Nichols College. Her experiences and relationships in the running community will be great assets to our program," said Hayes.
Norton, a Dudley native, spent time as a sprinter and jumper with the Southern New Hampshire indoor and outdoor track and field teams. While a member of the Penmen, Norton competed in multiple events, including the 60m, 100m, 200m, 400m, 500m, high jump, long jump, and triple jump.
"I want to thank Director of Athletics Jack Hayes and Senior Associate Director of Athletics Kristan Mallet for this opportunity," said Norton. "I'm excited to join the Nichols College family and get to work building another team into the existing winning culture."
Following her graduation from Southern New Hampshire, Norton began her coaching career in an assistant role at her alma mater, Shepherd Hill Regional High School, where she conducted daily practices with both the boys' and girls' teams.
