Briefly describe your journey to this job. What attracted you to Anna Maria College?
I held a number of different roles in Residence Life during my undergraduate years. I then worked as an Assistant Resident Director at Emmanuel College while pursuing my Master of Public Health. It was intimidating at first, but I realized how much I loved working directly with college students. When searching for a full-time position, I found myself looking at the Worcester area since I grew up about 20 minutes west of Anna Maria College. It’ is great to be back in an area that I call home!
What do you like most about being a Resident Director?
I love working with every student leaders but especially enjoy my RAs! I always strive to give the best version of myself since on any given day, ; I’m their guidance counselor, confidant, and biggest cheerleader. It is so rewarding seeing the RA’s gain experience and grow throughout the year from when they arrive in August through when they move out in May.
What are some “must-haves” that you recommend students bring when they first move-in?
Not necessarily must haves, but I always used to forget to pack shower shoes and hangers! The best purchase I ever made as a First-Year in college was a mac and cheese bowl. I still use it to this day to make ramen, mac and cheese, and other foods in the microwave. If you are a student with questions or wondering about what you need, ask your RA or RD. Chances are they’ve been asked the question before and can help point you in the right direction.
