The Holy Cross men's soccer team will be back on the pitch this Sunday, Aug. 28, when it travels to Connecticut for a 7:00 p.m. game.
Things to Know About the Crusaders (0-1, 0-0 Patriot League):
• Holy Cross stands 0-1 so far this year, after falling 2-0 at Manhattan on Thursday.
• The Crusaders are coming off a 2021 season in which they went 8-8-3 overall and placed third in the Patriot League with a 5-3-1 mark in conference play. Holy Cross has qualified for the Patriot League Tournament in each of the last two seasons.
• Sophomore forward Evan Jones looks to be the top offensive threat for Holy Cross this fall, after being selected to the 2022 preseason All-Patriot League team. Last year, Jones was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Year and the ECAC Rookie of the Year, in addition to earning second team All-Patriot League honors. He played in all 19 of Holy Cross' games in 2021, starting 13 times and leading the team with 22 points on eight goals and six assists. Jones finished the year tied for the Patriot League lead in goals, while his 22 points were the most by a Crusader in a single season since 2006.
• Senior midfielder Matt McGonigle, senior midfielder Jack Ostrosky and senior defender Taj Salawu are serving as the Crusaders' captains this season.
Scouting the Huskies (0-1, 0-0 Big East):
• Connecticut stands 0-1 this year, having dropped its first game to Charlotte 3-1 on Thursday.
• Sophomore forward Scott Testori had the Huskies' only goal against the 49ers, scoring for the second time in his collegiate career.
• Freshman goalkeeper Jayden Hibbert made his first career start against Charlotte, recording four saves while allowing three goals in 90 minute of action.
• Connecticut head coach Christopher Gbandi served as an assistant coach under Marco Koolman at Holy Cross from 2012-2013.
Series History:
• Connecticut holds a 4-0-0 lead in the all-time series with Holy Cross, although the schools have not played in almost 50 years.
• In the last meeting between the Crusaders and the Huskies, Connecticut posted an 8-1 victory in Storrs on Sept. 14, 1974.
