Football Downs No. 13 Kutztown in Season Opener

Patrick May's 36-yard field goal was all the scoring that Assumption University needed, as they pulled an upset over No. 13 Kutztown University, 3-0, Saturday afternoon.

THE BASICS

Score: Assumption University 3, No. 13 Kutztown University 0

Records: Greyhounds (1-0, 0-0 NE10) | Golden Bears (0-1, 0-0 PSAC)

The Greyhounds collected 208 yards of offense, led by quarterback Jake Cady, the senior recorded 138 yards through the air while also leading the team with 32 yards on the ground. Vinnie DiCarlo was the top receiver for Assumption, as he pulled in four receptions for 56 yards.

Defensively, senior captain Jael Feliz tallied 12 tackles and one sack. Lorenzo Valencia had a game-high two sacks to go along with eight tackles. Isaiah Huff led the way with three pass breakups, recording one of the three Assumption interceptions.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Kutztown struggles with ball possession, as they had three fumbles and threw three interceptions.
  • As a defense, the Greyhounds held the Golden Bears to 149 yards of offense, the second-fewest Division II football this season.
  • Assumption now leads the all-time series 4-3.
