The Holy Cross men's soccer team will play at home for the fourth time in its last five games when it faces Army West Point on Saturday, Sept. 24, at 1:00 p.m.
Things to Know About the Crusaders (4-4-0, 0-1-0 Patriot League):
• Holy Cross has an overall record of 4-4-0 on the season, with an 0-1-0 mark in the Patriot League. The Crusaders have won four of their last five games, including a 1-0 victory over Northeastern on Wednesday night.
• Linda Johnson Smith Stadium has provided a great home-field advantage for the Crusaders in recent years. Over the last three seasons, Holy Cross stands 11-2-1 at home, including a perfect 3-0-0 record so far in 2022.
• Sophomore forward Evan Jones is once again among the top offensive threats for Holy Cross this fall, and is tied for the team lead in scoring with seven points on three goals and one assist. He scored three goals during the win at UMass Lowell, becoming the first Crusader to record a hat trick since 2013. Last year, Jones was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Year and the ECAC Rookie of the Year, in addition to earning second team All-Patriot League honors. In 27 career games played, he has now totaled 11 goals and seven assists for 29 points.
• Senior midfielder Matt McGonigle scored his first goal of the season during the victory over UMass Lowell, then netted the game-winning goal against Hartford. On the year, he is tied for third on the team in scoring with two goals and two assists for six points. McGonigle has now totaled 20 points on six goals and eight assists in 38 career games played.
• Senior midfielder Jack Ostrosky scored the Crusaders' second goal during the victory over Hartford, after netting both of the team's goals in the 2-1 win over Iona. He is now tied for third on the team in scoring with six points on three goals, while playing 704 of a possible 720 minutes. Over the course of his collegiate career, Ostrosky has seven goals and five assists for 19 points in 42 games played.
• Sophomore goalkeeper Josh Tubbs recorded his first career shutout during the win over Northeastern, while making a career-best five saves. On the year, Tubbs owns a 4-1-0 record with 15 saves and a 1.87 goals against average.
• McGonigle, Ostrosky and senior defender Taj Salawu are serving as the Crusaders' captains this season.
Scouting the Black Knights (3-2-2, 1-0-0 Patriot League):
• Army West Point owns an overall mark of 3-2-2 on the year, with a 1-0-0 record in the Patriot League. The Black Knights are coming off a 2-1 win over Loyola (Md.) last Saturday.
• Junior defender Nick Atkinson currently leads the team in scoring with six points on three goals.
• Sophomore Tomas Hut and senior Josh Taylor have split time in goal this year, combining for a 1.29 goals against average and 30 saves.
Series History:
• The Black Knights hold a 20-16-5 lead in the all-time series between the schools, including a 3-1-0 mark in the last four games.
• The schools last met on Nov. 6, 2021, when Army posted a 1-0 victory in Worcester during the quarterfinals of the Patriot League Tournament.
