MEN’S SOCCER EDGED BY LOYOLA

Senior midfielder Bergin Kranz scored his third goal of the season, but the Holy Cross men's soccer team was defeated by Loyola (Md.) 2-1 at Linda Johnson Smith Stadium. The Crusaders fall to 4-7-2 overall and 0-4-1 in the Patriot League, while the Greyhounds improve to 4-3-4 on the year and 2-1-2 in the conference.

Loyola opened the scoring in the 16th minute when Matthew Lala headed in an Albert Kang cross from near the left post. The Greyhounds then increased their advantage to 2-0 in the 26th minute as Thomas Gray knocked in a Kelan Swales corner kick. Holy Cross trimmed the margin to 2-1 in the 56th minute when Kranz won a loose ball and dribbled into the box before scoring from 16 yards out in the center. But the Crusaders would not score again as Loyola held on for the win.

Holy Cross finished the game with an 11-10 advantage in shots, while the Greyhounds held an 8-2 edge in corner kicks.

Sophomore goalkeeper Josh Tubbs made four saves for the Crusaders, with Alex Bobocea recording three saves for Loyola.

The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, Oct. 15, when they travel to American for a 1:00 p.m. game.
