CRUSADERS FALL TO NEW HAMPSHIRE

The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team suffered their second loss to conference opponent New Hampshire, 4-1. The Crusaders fall to 2-7-1 and 1-5-0 in Hockey East standings while the Wildcats improve to 4-7-0 (3-5-0 Hockey East).

 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Wildcats went on the board early, scoring a goal at 1:43 in the first period.
  • New Hampshire added one more goal at 10:36 in the first to enter intermission with a two-goal lead.
  • When the second period began, the Wildcats scored two more goals within two minutes of one another. 
  • Senior Sofia Smithson capitalized on a power play and found the back of the net halfway through the third period. She was assisted by junior Vaia Graves. 
  • Freshman Brooke Loranger started the game in goal for Holy Cross. Junior goaltender Madison Beck came into the game early in the second period. She posted 11 saves in two periods. She averages 2.33 goals-against with a save percentage of .929. 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • Smithson's goal marks her second of the season. She ranks second in team standings for most goals.
  • Graves tallied her second assist on the year in her sixth game.
  • Penalties proved difficult for the Crusaders as they received six. UNH managed to score twice on the power play.
UP NEXT: 

  • Holy Cross returns to action Nov. 4 and 5 as they face Hockey East opponent Merrimack in a weekend series. Friday's game will be a home game for the Crusaders with a 7 p.m. start time. On Saturday, the teams will face off in North Andover with puck drop slated for 4 p.m.
