The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team was shut out by the Maine Black Bears 4-0 on Friday evening. The Crusaders fall to 2-10-1 and 1-8-0 in Hockey East standings while the Black Bears move to 7-7-0 (5-4-0 Hockey East).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Black Bears started the scoring with an early goal from Rahel Enzler at 3:11 in the first period. At the conclusion of the period, the Crusaders had recorded seven shots on goal compared to Maine's 14.
- The score remained the same through the second period. The Crusaders had 12 blocked shots by the start of the third period.
- Maine managed their second goal at 7:15 in the third period. Two minutes later, they tallied their third goal of the night on the power play.
- The Black Bears snuck their final goal through the legs of Loranger with 33 seconds remaining.
- Holy Cross created a few breakaway opportunities late in the game, but were unable to capitalize.
- Freshman goaltender Brooke Loranger posted a single game career-high 46 saves in her sixth start. Her previous career-high was 31 saves against Union on Oct. 1.
- The faceoff battle fell in favor of the Black Bears, 37-17.
- The Crusaders defense continued their streak in blocked shots. They tallied 15 compared to Maine's six. Sophomore defenseman Emilie Fortunato led the team with four, bringing her season total to 17.
- Holy Cross will continue their series with Maine on Saturday, Nov. 12. The Crusaders will remain in Orono for a 2 p.m. puck drop.
