Christopher Stalmok scored 49 seconds into the overtime period to lift the Assumption University men's ice hockey team over Fitchburg State University, 2-1, in non-conference action Tuesday evening at the Worcester Ice Center.
THE BASICS
Score: Assumption University 2, Fitchburg State University 1 - OT
Records: Greyhounds (5-4-0, 3-2-0 NE10), Falcons (3-2-2, 1-1-2 MASCAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fitchburg State started the scoring in the opening moments of the contest, as Cole Archambeault found the back of the net at the 2:05 marker of the first period. The Greyhounds would answer before the end of the first, as Mike D'Ambrosio's slapshot from the point beat the Falcons' netminder to send the two teams into the intermission tied at 1-1.
Despite multiple opportunities, neither team would break the tie in the second or third period. Just under a minute into the 3-on-3 overtime period, Stalmok ripped a shot from the top of the left circle and beat the Fitchburg State netminder over his right shoulder, giving the Greyhounds the 2-1 OT win.
