CRUSADERS FALL AT FORDHAM
Senior forward Gerrale Gates posted his second straight double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, but the Holy Cross men's basketball team was defeated by Fordham 67-53 in the Tom Konchalski Classic at Rose Hill Gymnasium. The Crusaders fall to 1-4 overall, while the Rams improve to 4-1 on the year.
Holy Cross made just 32.8 percent of its field goal attempts and 23.5 percent of its three-pointers on the night, but was able to connect on 78.6 percent of its free throws. Fordham hit 43.2 percent of its shots from the floor, 34.8 percent of its three-pointers and 80.8 percent of its foul shots.
The Rams held a narrow 8-6 lead after the first six minutes of play, before using a 22-2 run to take a commanding 22-point lead (30-8). Fordham went on to increase its advantage to 24 (36-12) heading into the locker room at halftime.
The Rams were still up by 24 (43-19) with 16:30 left to play, went the Crusaders went on a 15-2 run to get back into the game (45-34). Holy Cross eventually closed to within 10 points (62-52) with 1:51 remaining, but would get no closer as Fordham held on for a 14-point victory.
Junior guard Bo Montgomery finished the game with 10 points, two rebounds and two steals, while junior guard Joe Octave added nine points, four rebounds and two assists. The Rams were led by Darius Quisenberry with 14 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists.
The Crusaders return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 22, when they face Illinois-Chicago at 4:00 p.m. in their final game of the Tom Konchalski Classic.
