No. 14 Middlebury Pulls Away From Men's Basketball, 91-80

No. 14 Middlebury Pulls Away From Men's Basketball, 91-80

Tavon Jones' 22-point night wasn't enough to secure a win in the final game of the Rick Martin/Hampton Inn Tournament for the Bison, as Nichols fell to No. 14 Middlebury 91-80. Nichols finishes the tournament hosted at Westfield State with a 1-1 record, advancing to 3-2 on the season.

In the back-and-forth first half, the Bison were able to hold Middlebury close, trailing by just five heading into the break. Behind strong defense from both sides, Jones led the way for Nichols with eight first half points to go along with four rebounds.

Nichols came out in the second half battling. The Bison fought their way to a lead with 12:40 remaining following a big three-pointer from Jones. The lead would flip on multiple occasions in the second half until the Panthers went on a five-minute 19-6 run, closing out the contest, giving Middlebury its second win of the young season.

Jones had a team high 22 points in the loss, setting a new high for the season.

Matthew Alectus added three blocks to go along with his 18-point performance. After contributing 13 points and three steals, Ty Rucker was named to the All-Tournament team.

The Bison look to bounce back with a non-conference game as they host Thomas back in the friendly confines of the Nichols Athletic Center on Tuesday, November 22, at 7:30 p.m.
