Men’s Basketball Runs Past Thomas, 111-62

Men’s Basketball Runs Past Thomas, 111-62

The Nichols men's basketball team had 11 different scorers contribute, including five who reached double-digit point totals, in a 111-62 victory over non-conference opponent Thomas on Tuesday night at the Nichols Athletic Center. Nichols, who was receiving votes in the D3Hoops.com Top 25 Preseason Poll, heads into the Thanksgiving break with a 4-2 record, while Thomas falls to 2-4.

Beginning with an opening slam dunk from Quincy Ferebee just seconds into the game, the Bison hopped out to a 10-0 lead just 2:18 into the first, a lead they would only add to throughout the contest. Ty Rucker's layup on an assist from Ferebee with just 20 seconds to play gave Nichols a 55-31 lead as the first half came to a close.

In the second half, Nichols outscored Thomas 56-31 behind a combined 27-point effort from both Rucker and Matthew Alectus. The Bison defense kept the Terriers offense at bay in the frame, holding the visitors to a 32.5 shooting percentage in the second half.

Rucker led the team in scoring with 23 points on 62.5 percent shooting and provided eight steals and seven rebounds in the win. Dottin followed closely behind Rucker with 22 points with six assists. Alectus secured his fourth double-double of the season following a 17 point, 10 rebound performance.

Nichols and Thomas are knotted up at 2-2 in the all-time series, which dates back to December 6, 1991.

Following six non-conference games to start the year, Nichols will shift its focus to Roger Williams as the Bison are set to host the Hawks in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action on Wednesday, November 30 at 7:30 p.m. at the Nichols Athletic Center.
