Men’s Basketball Earns Convincing Victory Over Gordon, 103-63
Fueled by four players scoring 20 or more points, the Nichols men's basketball team earned a 103-63 victory over Gordon on Saturday afternoon at the Bennett Center in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) competition. With the win, the Bison advance to 5-3 (1-1 CCC) on the campaign.
Leading 26-19 in the first, Ty Rucker hit a deep three to put the Bison up 10, forcing Gordon into a timeout. With just over a minute to go in the half, and a 15-point lead in hand, Jakigh Dottin drove through the lane and kick the ball to Ferebee, whose three-point shot rimmed out. Tavon Jones flew past his defender to put-back the offensive board, getting fouled in the process, to gain a valuable three-point play en route to a 55-37 first-half lead.
The Bison continued to pour on the points in the second half. Jason Peters gave the Bison its largest lead of the half when the freshman hit a three with 2:06 to play. Nichols only allowed the Fighting Scots to muster 26 points in the second half on their way to their first conference win.
Dottin led the scoring efforts with 23 points, followed closely behind by Jones (22), Quincy Ferebee (21), and Matthew Alectus (20). Alectus earned his fifth double-double of the season by hauling in 11 rebounds. The team shot 38-of-71 (53.5%) from the field, including a 42.3% performance from beyond the arc. Nichols scored 46 points in the paint, including 20 points off of turnovers. Nichols out-rebounded the hosts 45-32 and earned eight total steals in the triumph.
Nichols will seek its second conference win on Tuesday, December 6 in a road contest at Curry. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. from the Student Center Gymnasium.
