Men’s Basketball Cruises to 100-63 Victory Over Curry
Nichols men's basketball ran away with a 100-63 victory over Curry on Tuesday night at the Student Center Gymnasium. The victory marked the second-consecutive conference win for the Bison, both coming in blowout fashion, bumping the team's record to 6-3 (2-1 CCC) on the season.
Nichols held a 41-34 edge on the hosts after the first half with Quincy Ferebee leading the scoring efforts with 12 points on six-of-nine shooting. Matthew Alectus hauled in 12 boards in the opening frame.
The Bison turned it up a notch in the second half, gaining a 17-point lead on a Tavon Jones fast break layup with 14 minutes to play. Nichols would keep its foot on the gas as the half continued, as buckets continued to fall for several contributors. The visitors led by as much as 41 with 2:31 remaining after a 16-0 run over a 3:23 span when Alecus connected on a fast-break three-pointer. Jakigh Dottin tallied 18 second-half points on the way to the victory.
The triumph marked the third in which the Bison have won by 37 points or more, with a 103-63 win over Gordon and a 111-62 victory over Thomas coming earlier this season.
Nichols shot 52.6% from the field as a team while limiting its opponent to just 40%. The Bison won the rebound battle by a margin of 28, 53-25.
Alectus' 22-point, 19-rebound performance earned him his sixth double-double of the campaign, while five Bison recorded double-digit point totals. Jones finished a whopping +37.
Nichols will head into the holiday break 6-3 (2-1 CCC) and will return in a non-conference road bout against Albertus Magnus on December 30 at the Messer Athletic Center with tip-off at 7 p.m.
