Senior forward Gerrale Gates has been selected as the GEICO Patriot League Player of the Week in men's basketball, for competition from Dec. 27-Jan. 2. This marks the first time Gates has received this honor from the conference in his career.
During Friday's 60-58 victory over Bucknell, Gates scored 23 points and tied his career-high by grabbing 14 rebounds. Then in Monday's 74-63 win at Navy, he had an outstanding all-around game with 11 points, 10 rebounds, four blocks, three assists and two steals. Gates averaged 17.0 points and 12.0 rebounds on the week, while connecting on 65.2 percent of his field goal attempts.
Overall this season, Gates is now averaging 17.1 points, 8.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.3 blocks per contest, while hitting 51.0 percent of his shots from the field. Over the course of his career with the Crusaders, he has totaled 923 points, 472 rebounds, 118 assists, 58 steals and 44 blocked shots.
Holy Cross (5-10 overall, 2-0 Patriot League) returns to action on Thursday, Jan. 5, when it plays host to American at 7:00 p.m.
