Men's Basketball Falters at Saint Anselm, 84-72
The Assumption University men's basketball team dropped an 84-72 Northeast-10 Conference decision at Saint Anselm College Wednesday evening.
THE BASICS
Score: Saint Anselm College 84, Assumption University 72
Records: Greyhounds (5-8, 1-6 NE10), Hawks (10-3, 7-1 NE10)
HOW IT HAPPENED
In the opening minutes of the first half, the two teams traded baskets. It wasn't until Assumption led 11-10 (13:46) that Saint Anselm went on a quick 6-0 run to go up 17-11 and grab a lead that they would not relinquish. The Greyhounds would get within one point multiple times throughout the first half, but the Hawks would always answer with a small burst of points to not fall behind the visitors. Saint Anselm would slowly pull away in the final minutes of the opening 20 minutes, as they went on a 20-10 run over the final 7:15 to head into the intermission up 41-29.
In the second half, the Greyhounds started to connect on their long-range shots, as they made their first three triples. The Hawks' lead would hover around a ten-point advantage for the majority of the second half, but following a Cooper Creek layup with 9:12 to go (60-52), the hosts went on a 17-5 run over the next 4:46, expanding their advantage to 77-57. Despite the deficit growing to as large as 29 points (79-60) with 3:14 showing on the game clock, the Greyhounds continued to chip away at the margin and closed the game on a 12-5 run.
