Despite a career-high 28 points from Isiah Gaiter, the Assumption University men's basketball's rally comes up short against No. 14 Bentley University, 77-74 in Northeast-10 Conference action, Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In the game's opening minutes, the two teams were trading baskets. Bentley jumped out to an early seven-point advantage (12-5) following a Matt Leritz layup at the 15:39 marker, but the Greyhounds responded to tie the game at 19-19 after Jacob Gibbons made a layup just before the halfway marker of the first half. The hosts would slowly expand their lead to 11 points (41-30) right before halftime, which they would carry into the intermission.
Assumption came out of the gates of the second half fast, as they cut the double-digit deficit down to six points (45-39) following a Njavan Stewart driving layup three minutes in. The Falcons had a small scoring run to grab their largest lead of the game of 12 points (55-43) after Aaron Latham made a layup at the 14:47 mark. Kani Glover cut the deficit down to five points (59-54) at the halfway point of the second half, as the Brockton, Mass. native scored with a putback layup. The Greyhounds continued to hang with the nationally ranked Falcons, as Glover's layup with 5:44 left in regulation cut the margin to four points (65-61). Isiah Gaitor got Assumption within two (71-69), as he used a stutter drive layup with 2:09 showing on the clock. The Greyhounds' rally would come up short, as the hosts would hit 2-for-2 from the field and 2-for-2 from the free throw line to pull away for a 77-74 decision.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Isiah Gaiter led all scorers with career-high 28 points, while Kani Glover (12) and Cal Connelly (12) recorded double-digit points.
- Bentley outrebounded Assumption 28-26, while the Falcons outscored the Greyhounds 50-42 in the paint.
