Men's Basketball Upsets No. 25/RV Pace, 76-58

Five Assumption University men's basketball players reach double-digit points as the Greyhounds upset No. 25/RV Pace University Saturday evening in Northeast-10 Conference action at Laska Gymnasium.

THE BASICS

Score: Assumption University 76, No. 25/RV Pace University 58

Records: Greyhounds (5-11, 1-8 NE10), Falcons (13-1, 8-1 NE10)

HOW IT HAPPENED

It was nothing but baskets in the opening portion of the half, with both sides exchanging points. Njavan Stewart stole the show early, contributing to 17 of Assumption's first 21 points, knocking down four from beyond the arc. Stewart then assisted Kyle Hicks for a floater, getting Assumption a four-point lead and forcing a timeout from Pace with the Greyhounds up 21-17. At this point, the Greyhounds began to pull away from Pace as more players got in the act, as Kyle Hicks, Isiah Gaiter, and Cal Connelly combined for 18 to bridge a gap. The Setters went scoreless in the last 2:49 and 1-9 in their previous nine beyond the arc to end the half. Assumption found themselves up, 43-28.

Pace's offense continued to struggle besides Brandon Powell, who had 11 of the Setter's 32 points when Assumption called a timeout at 15:19. The Greyhounds were slowing down a bit offensively, just 1-7 on their latest three-point attempts. The Setters continued to close the gap through Adonis Williams, who buried a three and followed it up with a transition layup at 12:27, forcing Scott Faucher to call another timeout. After that, Assumption settled back in and responded, going on a run of their own, emphasized by a Kani Glover three at the 4:49 mark. Pace attempted to slow the game down with a full-court press and earned themselves some baskets, cutting the deficit to ten with 2:26 remaining. The Greyhounds would dribble out the clock and secure their second conference win, 76-58.
