HOW IT HAPPENED
The Greyhounds faced off against the Purple Knights for the first time since November 30th, where the Hounds escaped with a one-point win back in Worcester. The home side, this time, got going extremely early, as Saint Michael's opened the game 10-5 at the 11:57 minute mark. The Purple Knights would end up doubling their score on the Greyhounds until Cal Connelly made a layup at the 9:10 mark to end that run. As the half came to a close, Assumption tried to grind back to make up for their poor start to the half. However, the defense was not doing its job, as the Purple Knights had 34 points with 2:15 remaining in the first half. Despite the accurate shooting from the home team, the Greyhounds ended up getting it closer by halftime, as Isiah Gaiter's layup with 30 seconds left cut the deficit to seven at halftime. The Greyhounds were down 34-27 headed into the break.
Assumption came out flying in the second half, as a Kani Glover layup at 16:52 triggered a Saint Michael's timeout as the lead was cut down to two. After the break, Gaiter tied the game with a layup of his own. The home team completely hit a funk, and by the 15:20 mark, they were being outscored 15-3 in the second half, with the Greyhounds taking a five-point lead. Gaiter continued his strong run of form in recent games, as he was up to 14 points on 6-10 shooting. The woes continued for the home side, a complete turnaround from the first half, with the Purple Knights only scoring five points halfway through the second half. What once was a 16-point deficit became a 14-point lead, with Daouda Dembele making a layup with 6:31 remaining. Stewart was also in double figures by this point, with 16 points. The home side called a timeout with less than two mins to go down by 13, trying to rally one last push against the visitors. It proved somewhat successful, as they got the lead back down to eight with 48 seconds remaining. Despite their efforts, Assumption was able to hang on for a 67-62 win on the road after being down by double digits.
