Fueled by a five goal, four assist performance from graduate student Hunter Ferreira, the Nichols men's lacrosse team ran away with a 16-3 victory over St. Joseph (CT) on Friday evening at Vendetti Field. The Bison improved to 4-1 (0-0 CCC), while the Blue Jays dropped to 2-1 (0-0 GNAC).

The visitors would get on the board first just a minute into the contest, but the Bison would wipe that away with four unanswered goals over the final 8:52 of the quarter to take a 4-1 lead after 15 minutes of action. Ferreira, who scored his second goal with just two seconds to play in the first frame, would open the scoring in the second quarter, scoring under two minutes in. Jack Ellis would follow up with his second of the contest before Ferreira put away his fourth strike with 6:43 left in the half, putting the Bison in a commanding 7-1 lead. St. Joseph would tally its second of the game when Evan Baden found twine on an unassisted bid with 5:52 to play in the half, cutting the deficit to just five before halftime.

Over the final two quarters, Nichols would outscore its opponent 9-1 en route to its fourth victory of the campaign, and third at the friendly confines of Vendetti Field.

The Bison were successful on 17 of their 19 clears and scooped 30 ground balls compared to the Blue Jays' 24.

Ferreira's nine points led the way, followed closely by CJ Cadigan (three goals, two assists) and Jack Ellis (two goals, three assists) who both tallied five points in the victory. Ferreira, Colby Gillis, and Cooper Melvin each snagged four ground balls, accounting for 12 of the team's 30 throughout the contest.

Brady Morgan made eight saves on 11 shots on net to earn his fourth win of the campaign, while Trey McCann was peppered with 28 shots on goals, stopping 12.

Nichols returns for another non-conference tune-up in a mid-week matchup slated for Wednesday, March 8 against New England Col. at Don Melander Field beginning at 7:00 p.m.
