Despite a career-high 18 saves by freshman Skylar Troyan, the No. 17 Assumption University women's lacrosse team fell to Northeast-10 Conference foe No. 14 Bentley University 14-13 in double OT Wednesday evening.


THE BASICS

Score: Bentley University 14, Assumption University 13 – 2OT

Records: Greyhounds (4-2, 1-1 NE10), Falcons (6-1, 4-0 NE10)

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

Assumption started fast, as Olivia Catanzarite scored the opening goal at the 13:35 marker. Bentley responded with back-to-back strikes to take their first lead of the contest. The Greyhounds answered with goals from Grace Chicko, and Catanzarite regained the lead for the guests. The two teams would trade the next few goals before Assumption opened up the second with four-straight tallies by Isabelle Edwards, Kyle Johnston, and Jenna Joseph to go up 8-4. The Falcons would not go quietly, as they saw three-straight goals to get within one (8-7) with 2:57 showing on the clock. The two teams would trade the last few goals of the first half, but Elizabeth Tighe beat the halftime horn to put the Greyhounds up 10-8.

 

The scoring would slow down in the second half, with Assumption having the slight 2-1 goal edge, as they would carry a 12-9 advantage into the fourth. Bentley opened the fourth with two goals in the first three minutes to draw within one, but Molly Weiand regained a two-goal advantage with 11:08 showing on the clock. The Falcons would see goals from Amanda Davis and Maeve Johnson to tie the game at 13-13, forcing the game to overtime.

 

The two teams would need more than one extra period, as the game would go to a second frame, where Bentley saw Natalia Dutewych score the game-winner 33 seconds into the second overtime.

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Skylar Troyan had a career-high 18 saves in the crease for Assumption, which is the most by a Greyhounds since Lauren Matysiak had 23 against Bentley on April 5, 2008.
  • The Greyhounds were outshot by the Falcons, 45-22, while Bentley won 19-of-30 draw controls.
  • Bentley now leads the all-time series 25-5, as they have won the last three meetings by one goal.
