HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME ONE – Southern Connecticut 4, Assumption University 1 – 10 Innings

The defense and pitching were the main stories in the day's first game. Southern Connecticut's Rachel Miller had the first base knock of the day in the top of the fourth inning. The Owls plated the contest's first run later in the frame, as Faith Barbieri scored on a Dominique DeLutri sacrifice fly.

Assumption responded in the bottom of the fourth inning, as Jordan Dwyer led off the inning with a triple to left-center field and would score on a Lauren Geremia single up the middle. The game would remain tied until the tenth inning as the Owls plated three runs in the top of the tenth, while the Greyhounds would be silenced in the bottom half of the frame.

Kaelin Waldron took the loss, despite striking out nine in 9.2 innings of action, where she allowed three earned runs.

GAME TWO - Assumption University 7, Southern Connecticut 5

Assumption flipped the script in the second game, as the Greyhounds were the first team to get on the board, as Heather Junjulas laced a single past the third baseman, scoring Dwyer in the bottom of the first inning. Kaitlyn Cahill doubled the host's advantage in the top of the second as she drove in Emma Bloom. Geremia continued to swing a hot bat and drove in two runs as her base hit beat the second baseman.

The Blue and White advantage grew in the third inning, as Kali Scirocco and Cahill recorded RBI in the frame, pushing their lead to 6-0. Alyssa Johnson made it 7-0 Assumption with an RBI single to left field in the bottom of the fourth, scoring Jaiden Tonucci on the play. Southern Connecticut made things interesting in the top of the sixth inning as the Owls struck for five runs on two hits.

Stacy Mayer's staff each allowed one hit, but Anna Tassone recorded the win, as she pitched 4.0 shutout innings while striking out a pair.
