Despite a late fourth-quarter rally, the Assumption University men's lacrosse team fell short against No. 19 Bentley University in Northeast-10 Conference action Tuesday evening at Brian Kelly '83 Stadium.

THE BASICS

Score: No. 19 Bentley University 13, Assumption University 12

Records: Greyhounds (2-4, 1-2 NE10), Falcons (4-2, 3-0 NE10)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The game started back and forth for both sides, as Assumption and Bentley scored two goals early. Luke Jaber opened things up with a behind-the-back goal, answered by two Assumption goals through Jackson Bulger and Ryan Healey. The Falcons had a response again through Conor Segreti and tied it 2-2 with 7:44 left in the first quarter and then took a 3-2 lead just over a minute later. At the end of the first quarter, both teams added one more, as the Falcons led 4-3 after one.

It was a slow second quarter to start, but finally, the Falcons added to their lead through Nathan Alviti at 8:33 to make it 6-3. The defense from Bentley was outstanding in the second quarter, and they limited quality opportunities for the home side until Nolan Sheehan got one back with 2:11 left in the half. Bentley was in front of the hosts at the break, 8-4.

The Greyhounds came out with some offensive pressure in the second half, scoring two quick goals through Brady McNulty and Sam Maciel. The Falcons responded 43 seconds later with ten minutes left in the quarter to up their lead to 9-6. That was all in the third, as the Bentley goaltender Jackson Tinsley made multiple saves to keep the visitors in the game.

The fourth quarter started with two Assumption goals by Ryan Bogar and Sheenan as Brian Kelly Stadium could feel the momentum begin to shift. Bentley responded with a pair of goals, and then Sheenan added his fourth and fifth at 8:40 as he carried the load offensively. In the later stages of the last period, Bentley tried to use the clock to their advantage, as they wound it down to two minutes left, and they were up 13-10. In the final minute, Patrick McGrath scored two goals, but despite their efforts, the Falcons won the faceoff and ran out the clock, hanging on to win 13-12.
