Leicester Public Schools District’s student-to-teacher ratio rose by 2.2% in 2021-22 school year

The ratio of students to teachers in Leicester Public Schools District rose by 2.2% in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

There were 1,389 students being taught by 100.1 teachers in Leicester Public Schools District, which covers schools within Worcester County and has a main office in Leicester. That's an average of 13.9 students per teacher in the district during the 2021-22 school year.

In the previous year, Leicester Public Schools District had 1,374 students and 100.9 teachers on staff.

However, the state is facing a teacher shortage, just like the rest of the U.S. NewsNation reported that the state was offering emergency teaching licenses to educators who only had bachelor’s degrees, in an effort to get more teachers into schools.

Massachusetts was ranked as the eighth best state for teachers, according to a WalletHub study.
