The ratio of students to teachers in Blackstone Valley Vocational Regional School District fell by 1.7% in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

There were 1,234 students being taught by 105 teachers in Blackstone Valley Vocational Regional School District, which covers schools within Worcester County and has a main office in Upton. That's an average of 11.8 students per teacher in the district during the 2021-22 school year.

In the previous year, Blackstone Valley Vocational Regional School District had 1,231 students and 102.3 teachers on staff.

Despite the shortage, under-representation of ethnicities among teachers was found to be a concern. The Rennie Center reported that only nine percent of teachers are people of color.

However, the state is facing a teacher shortage, just like the rest of the U.S. NewsNation reported that the state was offering emergency teaching licenses to educators who only had bachelor’s degrees, in an effort to get more teachers into schools.
