Junior Gabe Warren and freshman Aiden Disu each set personal scoring records for the Holy Cross men’s basketball team in a 83-73 loss to Loyola (Md.) on Sunday at Reitz Arena.
Warren led the Crusaders with 28 points, shooting over 56 percent from the field and making four of seven three-point attempts. He also grabbed a career-high nine rebounds. Disu contributed 22 points, six rebounds, and one block while hitting more than 64 percent of his shots. Sophomore Tyler Boston added 15 points along with four rebounds and three assists.
Loyola (Md.), now 11-16 overall and 7-7 in Patriot League play, was paced by Braeden Speed who finished with 25 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists. Emmett Adair scored 24 points, including six three-pointers.
The game saw several lead changes. Disu opened scoring for Holy Cross with an early three-pointer before helping spark an 11-0 run that put the Crusaders ahead. Declan Ryan extended their lead to ten points midway through the first half, but Loyola responded with its own run to take a narrow halftime advantage.
After halftime, Holy Cross briefly regained control following back-to-back threes from Warren and Disu as part of a larger stretch that put them up by eight. However, Loyola countered with a decisive run late in the second half to reclaim the lead for good.
Disu has been effective from the free throw line recently, converting over 90 percent of his attempts in his last ten games. He has also scored at least twenty points in each of his last three outings. Warren scored most of his points—23 out of 28—in the second half. Loyola made two-thirds of its three-point shots after halftime and received significant contributions from its bench players.
Holy Cross will return home to face Lafayette on Wednesday at Bob Cousy ’50 Court. Tickets are available through the Holy Cross Ticket Office.
