Senior Jaden Wywoda reached his 200th career strikeout as the Holy Cross baseball team secured a 4-2 victory in 13 innings against Lafayette on May 2 at Kamine Stadium.
This win marks the Crusaders’ fifth victory in their last six games, bringing their record to 21-25 overall and 13-11 in Patriot League play. The Leopards fell to a record of 10-33 and are now 5-19 in league competition.
Wywoda, who is the reigning Patriot League Pitcher of the Week, became only the third pitcher in program history to reach this milestone when he struck out Bode Grieve swinging during the fifth inning. His achievement came as part of a stretch where he retired five consecutive batters by strikeout. Wywoda matched his career-high with nine strikeouts for the third time this season and now has a total of 205 career strikeouts, placing him third on Holy Cross’s all-time list. He also advanced to second place on the school’s all-time innings pitched list with a total of 251.1 innings.
Freshman Liam Daly played a crucial role by hitting a two-run single in the top of the thirteenth inning, giving Holy Cross a lead they would not relinquish. Junior catcher Colin Brown contributed three hits and caught two runners stealing during the game.
The Crusaders will conclude their regular season with a doubleheader against Lafayette on Sunday, May 3. Sophomore Jake Lenahan is scheduled to start game one at noon.
